Templo de San Jose de Gracia


The Temple of San Jose was built by Ignacio Díaz Morales between 1869 and 1890. This temple is a copy of the temple of Carmen de Celaya, in Guanajuato, Mexico. This architecture has a neoclassic style, and has seven altars and one chapel high decorated. Principles of the architecture: variety, movement. Elements of the architecture: form, space.

Teatro Degollado


This arquitecture is the home of the philharmonic orchestra of Jalisco. It is also a stage of many recitals, concerts and ballets. The arquitecture was inaugurated on September 13th, 1886. It has a neoclassic style and influence of  Italian theater. Its facade is of a quarry and a marble relief amount, with the image of Apollo and the Nine Muses, where we read the phrase "You never get the sound of discord." Principles: rhythm, emphasis.

Catedral de Guadalajara

Guadalajara Cathedral or Metropolitan Cathedral of Guadalajara, as it is also known by is a beautiful structure and gothic style. It dominates the skyline of downtown in Centro Histórico. The construction began in the 1560’s and took over 50 years to complete. The current towers shown are not the originals. The first towers were destroyed in 1818 after a strong earthquake brought them crashing down. New towers had to be made and were constructed by Architect Manuel Gomez Ibarra in 1854. This cathedral has 17 bells. These bells still keep their old touches such as prayer, angelus, ringing holiday, and cries etc, all the bells are now in operation and are played to party every Sunday. Three cardinals were buried and several bishops of the diocese, and even the heart of a president of Mexico. The Cathedral has: spires, pinnacles in the towers, pointed arches inside, rib vaults, and stained glass brought from France.

Instituto Cultural Hospicio Cabañas

This arquitecture was built in 1843, and has a neoclassic style. Here are art workshops, exhibitions, and cultural events. Currently, the building has 23 courts, 106 rooms, 72 halls and two chapels. The Instituto Cultural Cabañas preserves the works of José Clemente Orozco, Mathias Goeritz and the collection of the people of Jalisco, composed by paintings and sculptures. Principles: balance, variety. Elements: space, form.

Hidalgo

This art object was painting in the Palacio de Gobierno of Guadalajara, Jalisco, by Jose Clemente Orozco. This painting represents the feeling of hatred toward the Spanish and slavery, and the desire to create a liberal republic. It also reflects the economic situation of the working class and peasants. Principles: harmony, movement. Elements: color, texture.
